Restylane® is a popular dermal filler composed of a special form of hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in the skin that works to keep the skin looking moist and full. Unfortunately, our body produces less hyaluronic acid as we age, causing the skin to wrinkle and crease as volume is lost to the aging process.
Restylane® injections can be a highly effective way to combat lower levels of hyaluronic acid in the body, ultimately restoring a youthful fullness to your features. The Restylane® product line offers several different variations of its original formula, and each filler is specially designed to target a unique concern. Whether you would like to smooth nasolabial folds and marionette lines or add volume to the lips and cheeks, our plastic surgeon at the Santa Barbara Plastic Surgery Center can help you determine which Restylane® treatment is the best solution to achieve your desired look.

What Concerns Can Restylane® Treat?
Restylane® can be used to restore fullness to flat or sunken facial features as well as deep creases. This injectable can allow you to achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance in just one treatment by improving:
- Nasolabial folds
- Marionette lines
- Cheeks
- Temples
- Lips
- Hands
The solution is injected below wrinkles and hollow areas where volume has been lost, ultimately working to smooth and fill these areas. Restylane® fillers can also plump the lips for a fuller, more attractive look. Unlike other dermal fillers, Restylane® requires no skin test prior to treatment.
Restylane®
The original Restylane® formula is designed to smooth wrinkles and fill creases such as nasolabial folds. These “parentheses wrinkles” extend from the base of the nose to the corners of the mouth and often become more pronounced over time. Restylane® has been proven to reduce these and other creases, including marionette lines, for up to 18 months. Restylane® can also be used to add volume to the lips for a fuller, more youthful lip shape.
Restylane® Lyft
Formerly known as Perlane-L®, Restylane® Lyft can shape the cheeks and add volume to the mid-face as well as the hands. Many patients use Restylane® Lyft to restore fullness around the nose and mouth, or fill mild nasolabial folds and other creases. Restylane® Lyft can also volumize the backs of the hands for a softer look and feel. Depending on which area is being treated, results typically last 6 to 12 months.
Restylane® Silk
The ideal appearance of the lips is characterized by a lower lip that projects just beyond the upper lip, and an even, well-defined cupid’s bow. Restylane® Silk can be a dynamic filler to enhance fullness in the lips for a more voluminous lip shape, often achieving a more sensual lip appearance with an improved pout. Restylane® Silk is also utilized to smooth vertical lip wrinkles and attain a more youthful look overall for subtle and natural-looking lip augmentation. The results of Restylane® Silk typically last up to six months.
Restylane® Refyne
Restylane® Refyne is intended to treat more moderate wrinkles in the face, including nasolabial folds and marionette lines. The thick-consistency gel is designed with XpresHAn Technology™, a unique cross-linking of hyaluronic acid particles that allows natural movement of your facial muscles. This composition can make Restylane® Refyne ideal for treating creases in the lower half of the face, where the majority of facial expressions are formed.
Restylane® Defyne
For moderate to severe nasolabial folds and marionette lines, Restylane® Defyne is also formulated with XpresHAn Technology™ to correct more pronounced facial creases. This simply means that the cross-linking hyaluronic acid in Restylane® Defyne is designed to smooth deep lines around the nose and mouth while supporting your natural facial movements. Restylane® Defyne is injected into the mid to deep dermis for effective and long-lasting results that usually last for 6 to 12 months.
Restylane® Kysse
Restylane® Kysse is a dynamic filler specifically formulated to enhance the shape, color, and fullness of the lips. This injectable can add subtle volume to the upper and lower lips while smoothing fine lines (perioral wrinkles) and improving overall texture. While results can vary, patients typically experience a more defined cupid’s bow, a fuller pout, and a more youthful lip shape in the weeks following injections. Like other products in the Restylane® collection, Kysse is made with XpresHAn Technology™ to help ensure your augmentation appears natural and refined.
What is Treatment with Restylane® Like?
Rejuvenation with dermal fillers offers many benefits, including a quick and easy treatment, minimal downtime, and virtually immediate results. Restylane® injections are performed in-office at Santa Barbara Plastic Surgery Center. During the session, your chosen Restylane® filler will be injected into wrinkles and/or other areas lacking volume. Patients report little to no discomfort during the injection process and many Restylane® products include a topical anesthetic in the formulation. These treatments usually take 15 to 30 minutes to complete, and you may return to normal activities right after injections.
How Much Does Restylane® Cost?
The national average cost of Restylane® injections is approximately $350 to $800 per syringe and the total price of your treatment depends on how much filler is necessary to achieve your cosmetic goals. Once your needs are known, a member of our team will provide you with a personalized quote based on the details of your treatment plan. If you prefer to pay for your Restylane® expenses in smaller installments rather than a lump sum, our practice works with plastic surgery financing companies like CareCredit® and ALPHAEON™ Credit to make your costs more affordable. As some of the leading healthcare lending companies in the country, CareCredit® and ALPHAEON™ Credit each offer qualified patients an array of flexible payment plans to pay for their Restylane® treatment, many of which include no-interest options.
